Recommendations and AI
How SmartSort AI's daily merchandising checks and AI recommendations work, what they look for, and how to apply or dismiss a suggestion.
SmartSort AI reviews your collections and suggests improvements. Automatic checks run on every plan; AI recommendations are part of the Pro plan.
Automatic checks
Every day, SmartSort AI looks at your collections, sales and stock and flags:
- Selling collections that aren’t sorted yet — a collection whose products sell, but which SmartSort AI doesn’t manage.
- Sold-out products on top — two or more sold-out products in the first 12 positions while out-of-stock handling is off.
- Buried best sellers — strong sellers sitting below position 24 in a collection that isn’t sorted by sales.
- Hidden new arrivals — products added in the last two weeks that sit below position 24.
- A first row that isn’t selling — most of the first 12 products had no sales in your lookback period.
- Sold-out featured products — pinned products that can’t be bought.
- Missing cost data — margin or profit sorting while most products have no “Cost per item”.
Findings that no longer apply disappear at the next check. Click Refresh on the Recommendations page to check now.
Apply or dismiss
Most recommendations come with a one-click change — turn the collection on, push out-of-stock products down, sort by sales, promote new arrivals and so on. Choose Apply to make the change; it takes effect from the collection’s next sort. Some changes apply to one collection, others to your store-wide rules; the recommendation says which.
Choose Dismiss to hide a recommendation you don’t want.
Note: A change still needs to be part of your plan. If it isn’t, SmartSort AI tells you which plan includes it.
AI recommendations
On the Pro plan, choose a collection on the Recommendations page and ask for an AI suggestion. SmartSort AI sends a compact summary of the collection to OpenAI — its first products and top sellers with their titles, tags, prices, stock, age, margin and sales figures, plus your current sorting settings — and gets back a proposed strategy: a sort order and tiebreaker, sales lookback, new arrival and out-of-stock handling and tag priorities, with a short explanation.
- Every suggestion is checked against SmartSort AI’s limits before you see it, so it can always be applied safely.
- Nothing changes until you choose Apply. AI suggestions apply to that collection only.
- The AI sees product and sales data only — never customer data.
- Each store can ask for a limited number of AI suggestions per hour.
AI can be wrong. Read the explanation, use Preview on the collection after applying, and undo if the result isn’t what you want.
