Privacy and data
What data SmartSort AI reads and stores, why it needs order line items but no customer data, what the storefront pixel sends, and how data is deleted.
SmartSort AI needs your catalog and your sales figures to sort collections. It does not need — and does not store — personal information about your customers. This article summarises how data is handled; the privacy policy has the full details.
What SmartSort AI reads from your store
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Products and variants: title, vendor, type, tags, status, dates, price, compare-at price, cost per item, inventory | To rank products and evaluate your rules |
| Collections and the order of their products | To sort them |
| Order line items: product, quantity, revenue after discounts, paid, fulfilled or cancelled, order date | For sales-based sorting and reports |
| Store details: name, email, currency, time zone, plan | To run schedules in your time zone and manage billing |
| Staff who open the app: name, email, locale | To sign them in |
No customer data
SmartSort AI doesn’t request or store customer names, emails, phone numbers, addresses or customer IDs. Order notifications from Shopify are limited to the fields in the table above before they’re sent to SmartSort AI.
Because there’s no customer data, Shopify’s customer data requests and customer redaction requests have nothing to return or delete. They’re still received and logged.
The storefront pixel
The pixel sends collection IDs, product IDs and grid positions when shoppers view a collection, open a product from it or add it to the cart. It sends no names, emails, customer or device IDs and sets no cookies, and it follows the shopper’s privacy choices in your store. Events are stored as daily counts per product and collection. See Analytics and the storefront pixel.
AI recommendations
When you ask for an AI suggestion (Pro plan), a summary of that collection’s products, sales and settings is sent to OpenAI. No customer data is included. See Recommendations and AI.
Changes SmartSort AI makes in your store
- It changes the sort order of the collections you turn on to manual and reorders their products.
- With smart tagging, it adds and removes the tags you configure.
- It adds the storefront Web Pixel for analytics.
It doesn’t edit your theme, products, prices or inventory.
Retention and deletion
- Order line items and daily storefront statistics are kept for about 13 months, sort history for 90 days and the activity log for 6 months, then deleted automatically.
- When you uninstall, SmartSort AI’s access to your store ends immediately. Shopify then sends a data-removal request (usually 48 hours later) and all of your store’s data is deleted.
