Preview, undo and restore

See the new order of a collection before it goes live, check what each sort changed, undo a sort, and restore a collection's original Shopify sort order.

SmartSort AI is built so you can try things safely: preview before you save, undo a sort you don’t like, and give a collection back its original Shopify sorting at any time.

Preview

Open a collection and choose Preview. You see:

  • the current order and the new order side by side,
  • why each product landed where it did — Featured, New arrival, Back in stock, Tag: hero, Rule: Northwind in stock, Out of stock, or the sort order,
  • how many products would move.

Preview uses the settings on screen, including changes you haven’t saved yet, so you can compare options before committing. It doesn’t change anything in your store.

Sort history

Each collection keeps a history of its recent sorts:

  • When it ran and what triggered it — a schedule, real time, a manual re-sort, Re-sort all now or an undo.
  • Result — completed, unchanged (already in the right order) or failed, with the error.
  • How many products moved and how long it took.

The Activity page lists changes across the store: settings saved, collections turned on or off, featured products, recommendations applied and more.

Undo a sort

To go back to the order a collection had before a sort, choose Undo on that sort in the collection’s history. SmartSort AI puts the products back in their previous order. Products added to the collection since then are placed at the end, in their current order.

Note: Undo restores the order once. If the collection is still turned on, its next scheduled sort applies your rules again — change the settings or turn the collection off if you want to keep the old order.

Restore the original sort order

When SmartSort AI starts sorting a collection, it remembers the collection’s Shopify sort order — Best selling, Alphabetically, Newest and so on. Choose Restore on the collection to stop sorting it and give that sort order back to Shopify.

Do this for each collection before uninstalling if you want Shopify’s own sorting back: after you uninstall, collections keep the last order SmartSort AI applied.
