Pick & pack
Pick and pack orders
Pack paid orders from the phone, scan every item into the box so wrong items are caught, and track packed orders in the Shopify app.
Pick & pack is included on every plan. Staff work in the mobile app’s Orders tab; managers follow along on the Shopify app’s Orders page.
Which orders appear
Only paid, unfulfilled orders that need shipping reach the phone. An order shows up when it’s paid and open in Shopify, and has items that require shipping and aren’t fulfilled yet. Orders that are already on someone’s pick list, or already packed, are hidden so two people don’t pack the same order.
The To pack list shows the oldest orders first, with the order number, date, items, shipping method and an icon when the order has a note. Use the search box to find an order by number or SKU, and pull down to refresh.
Pack one order
- In Orders → To pack, tap the order, then tap Pack this order.
- Scan each item as you put it in the box. A line is checked off when all its units are in, and the progress bar shows … in box.
- When everything is scanned, tap Mark packed.
- Choose Print packing slip, or Done (or Next in a batch).
The order’s note, if it has one, is shown above the items so it isn’t missed.
Wrong and extra items
Every scan is checked against the order:
- Wrong item — the product isn’t in this order. The app shows Wrong item and asks you to take it out.
- Extra item — all units of that product are already in the box.
If a label won’t scan, tap the keyboard icon to type the code. You can also tap + on a line to add one unit, or tap its quantity to set it.
Orders that can’t be completed
If an item is out of stock or damaged, tap Skip. The order goes back to the To pack queue for later.
Require every item
In the Shopify app’s Settings, Require every item to be scanned before an order is marked packed is on by default. Staff then see Scan all items to finish until the box is complete.
Turn it off to let staff finish an order with items missing. They’re asked to confirm (Items missing … Mark … packed anyway?), and the order is marked Partial in the Shopify app.
Packed orders and Shopify
Marking an order packed records who packed it, when, and how many units were scanned. It doesn’t fulfill the order in Shopify: you keep fulfilling and buying shipping labels in Shopify or your shipping app as usual.
Each order counts toward your plan’s Orders packed / month once it’s marked packed. Picking, skipping or canceling a pick list doesn’t use your allowance. See Plans, free trial and billing.
Follow along in the Shopify app
The Orders page shows:
- Orders to pack, Packed today, Active pick lists and Avg. time per order (last 30 days).
- How many orders you’ve packed this billing period, against your plan’s limit.
- Pick lists — every single order and batch, with the picker, status (Picking, Packing, Completed, Cancelled), progress and units. Click one for its items, orders and timeline.
- Packed orders — who packed each order, the shipping method, units packed and total. Search by order number.
On the Growth plan and up, click Export packed orders, choose From and To dates and click Download CSV for one row per packed order.
