Inventory counts

Count stock

Fix one product with a Single Product Count, count many products with a Full Inventory Audit, or check stock at every location without changing anything.

Counting happens in the mobile app. Everything starts on the Home tab: pick a location, then a scan mode.

Choose a location

Under Count location, choose where you’re counting. It starts on the default location set in the Shopify app’s Settings. The list only shows locations your plan includes; see Plans, free trial and billing.

Counts always update the stock at the location you chose, so check it before you start.

Choose a scan mode

Scan mode Use it to Plans
Single Product Count Correct one product and update Shopify immediately All plans
Full Inventory Audit Count many products, review, then submit together All plans
Location Audit Count shelf by shelf with shelf or bin labels Growth and up

A mode that isn’t on your store’s plan shows Not included in this store’s plan. Location audits have their own guide: Count shelf by shelf.

Single Product Count

  1. On Home, tap Single Product Count.
  2. Point the camera at the product’s barcode. The product card shows its image, title, variant, SKU, barcode and location, plus two chips: Shopify (current stock) and Diff (your count minus Shopify’s).
  3. Scan the same item again for each unit. Every scan adds 1.
  4. Tap Submit Count. Check the summary — Current Shopify, Counted and Difference — and tap Set Shopify to ….

The app confirms Shopify updated: … is now …. If Shopify had 50 and you counted 47, Shopify now says 47.

This mode counts one product at a time. To move to another product, submit or reset the current count first.

Full Inventory Audit

  1. On Home, tap Full Inventory Audit.
  2. Scan your products. Each new product gets its own line; scanning it again adds 1. A chip on the camera shows how many products and units you’ve counted.
  3. When you’re done, tap Review & submit.
  4. Check each line on the Review count screen, then tap Submit all.

The app confirms Inventory updated with the number of products changed in Shopify. Submitting and conflicts are covered in Submit counts and resolve conflicts.

Pick up where you left off

An audit is saved on the phone as a draft until it’s submitted. If you leave the scan screen, Home shows a Resume card and a Resume count button. If you start another count while a draft exists, the app asks whether to Resume it or Discard it.

Adjust a count

Under the product card:

  • + and − add or remove one unit.
  • Tap the big number (counted · tap to enter) to type an exact quantity — handy for full cases or pallets.
  • Reset count sets the current product back to 0.

On the review screen, tap a line to go back and adjust it, or swipe it to the left to remove it.

Tip: Holding the camera on one label doesn’t count it twice. Rack Scanner ignores repeat reads of the same barcode within a short cooldown, which you can change under Settings → Repeat-scan cooldown in the Shopify app.

When a label won’t scan

Tap the keyboard icon (Type or search) at the top of the scan screen. Type a barcode, UPC or SKU and tap Count this code, or type part of a product name and tap Search, then choose the product from the results.

Check stock without counting

To see stock without starting a count, tap Stock check on Home and scan a barcode, UPC or SKU label. You’ll see the total and the available quantity at every location. Nothing is changed in Shopify, and stock checks don’t use your plan’s scans.
