What does ShipRule do?

ShipRule decides which delivery methods buyers see at checkout. You build rules from cart value, item quantity, products, tags, collections, the shipping country, state or postal code, and customer tags. A rule can hide methods, show only the ones you choose, rename them or change their order. See What ShipRule does.

Do I need to edit my theme or add scripts?

No. ShipRule runs inside Shopify’s checkout with a Shopify Function, through one delivery customization it adds to your store. There’s no theme code and no checkout script.

Do I need Shopify Plus?

No. ShipRule is a public app, so it works on every Shopify plan.

Does it work with Shop Pay?

Yes. Rules apply in the online store checkout, Shop Pay and other accelerated checkouts, B2B checkout and draft orders completed at checkout. They don’t run on the cart page, in orders created in the Shopify admin, in order edits or in subscription renewals.

Can ShipRule create new shipping rates or change prices?

No. Rules hide, rename and move the options your shipping settings and carriers already return. To offer a new rate, add it in Shopify under Settings → Shipping and delivery, then use ShipRule to decide when buyers see it.

Why does a renamed UPS or FedEx rate still show the carrier name?

Shopify keeps the carrier name in front of carrier-calculated rates. UPS Standard can become UPS Standard Shipping, but not Standard Shipping.

Can I make a method the default choice?

Not with ShipRule. Move delivery methods changes the order buyers see, but Shopify still pre-selects the cheapest option.

How many rules can I create?

As many as you like, on every plan. Shopify limits how much rule data reaches checkout, and the Checkout capacity meter shows how much you use. Long postal code or product lists use the most.

What happens when several rules match?

All of them apply: hides add up, a method must pass every matching show only rule, and for renames and moves the rule higher in the list wins. On the Pro plan, you can choose to apply only the first matching rule instead. See Rule priority and conflicts.

Can a rule accidentally block checkout?

Not with the safety switch on, which is the default. If your rules would remove every delivery method, ShipRule leaves the options visible instead. Turn it off only if you intentionally want to prevent orders, for example to addresses you can’t ship to.

How do I test a rule?

Save it, then go through your store’s checkout with a cart and address the rule targets, and again with ones it doesn’t. Changes reach checkout within a few seconds. See Create your first rule.

Can I turn ShipRule off without losing my rules?

Yes. Turn individual rules off on Shipping rules, or use Settings → Pause ShipRule to restore your normal shipping options for every checkout. Your rules stay as they are. See Manage rules.

Does ShipRule store customer data?

No. Your rules run inside Shopify’s checkout. Customer tags are matched inside Shopify and only a yes or no comes back, and the function reads the shipping country, state and postal code — never names, emails, phone numbers or street addresses. See Privacy and data.

What happens when I downgrade, cancel or uninstall?

On a downgrade, rules that use features of a higher plan are paused, not deleted, and resume when you upgrade. If you cancel, ShipRule stops changing checkout once the plan ends. If you uninstall, Shopify removes ShipRule’s delivery customization, and your data is deleted when Shopify sends its data-removal request, 48 hours later. See Plans, free trial and billing.
