Build rules
Actions: hide, show only, rename and move
What each ShipRule action does, how to pick the delivery methods it applies to by name, type and price, and how to use several actions in one rule.
Actions decide what happens to delivery methods when a rule’s conditions match. They live in the Actions card of the rule editor.
The four actions
| Action | What it does | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| Hide delivery methods | Removes the matching methods from checkout | All plans |
| Show only these methods | Hides every method that doesn’t match, so only these remain | All plans |
| Rename delivery methods | Changes the name buyers see | Growth and up |
| Move delivery methods | Moves the matching methods to a position in the list | Pro |
Choose the action from the menu at the top of each action. Actions that aren’t on your plan show the plan that includes them.
Choose which methods an action applies to
By name
Under Delivery methods whose name, choose is exactly or contains, then add one or more names.
- Names aren’t case-sensitive. express matches Express.
- contains matches part of a name: Express matches Express and Express Overnight.
- Your methods lists the shipping method names set up in your store. Click one to add it.
- Carrier-calculated rates (UPS, FedEx…) appear at checkout by their service name. Type them as shown there.
- For Hide delivery methods, leave the names empty to target every method. The other actions need at least one name, delivery type or price to know which methods to change.
By delivery type (Pro)
Under Only these delivery types, tick any of Shipping, Local delivery, Local pickup, Pickup point and Retail (POS). Leave them all unticked to include every type.
By price (Pro)
Tick Only when the method’s price and choose is greater than, is at least, is less than, is at most or is equal to, then enter an amount in your store’s currency. ShipRule converts it for buyers paying in another currency. A method without a price doesn’t match a price filter.
Name, type and price filters combine: a method must pass every filter you set.
Example: Hide delivery methods with no names, delivery type Shipping and price is greater than 20 hides every shipping rate above 20 in your currency.
Show only
Show only these methods is the opposite of hide: everything that doesn’t match is hidden. Use it when a short list is easier to write than everything you want to remove — for example, show only Freight to wholesale customers.
Rename
Enter the New name, up to 100 characters. For carrier-calculated rates, Shopify keeps the carrier name in front: UPS Standard can become UPS Standard Shipping, but not Standard Shipping.
Move
Enter Move to position from 1 to 50; 1 is the top of the list. Moving changes the order buyers see, but Shopify still pre-selects the cheapest option.
Several actions in one rule
On the Pro plan, click Add action to add up to 10 actions to one rule — for example, rename Standard and move Express to the top when the same conditions match. Click Remove to delete an action.
On other plans, create a separate rule for each action instead.
When several rules change the same method
- A method hidden by any rule stays hidden.
- With several show only rules, a method must be allowed by each of them.
- For renames and moves, the rule higher in the list wins.
- Hidden methods aren’t renamed or moved.
See Rule priority and conflicts.
Note: If your rules would hide every method in a checkout, the safety switch keeps all of them visible instead. See Rule priority and conflicts.
