# Rule templates

ShipRule · Build rules · Updated October 10, 2026

> Start a shipping rule from one of eight ready-made templates, then match it to your store’s method names before you save it.

Templates are complete rules for common shipping setups. A template opens the rule editor already filled in; nothing is saved until you review it and click **Save**.

## Use a template

1. Open **Shipping rules** and click **Use a template**. (When you have no rules yet, the templates open on their own.)
2. Click the template you want.
3. Change the method names, amounts, countries or tags to match your store. Under the method names, **Your methods** lists the shipping methods set up in your store.
4. Click **Save**.

Template rules start turned on, so they reach checkout as soon as you save.

## All templates

| Template | Conditions | Action | Plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| **Hide express shipping on small orders** | Cart subtotal is less than 50 | Hide methods whose name contains *Express* | All plans |
| **Show only free shipping above a threshold** | Cart subtotal is at least 100 | Show only methods whose name contains *Free* | All plans |
| **Hide a method for some countries** | Shipping country is any of CA | Hide methods whose name contains *Economy* | All plans |
| **Hide next-day delivery for remote postal codes** | Shipping postal code starts with any of 96, 99 | Hide methods whose name contains *Next day* or *Overnight* | Growth and up |
| **Wholesale customers get freight only** | Customer tags includes any of *wholesale* | Show only methods whose name contains *Freight* | Growth and up |
| **Rename a method** | None (every checkout) | Rename the method named exactly *Standard* to *Standard (3–5 business days)* | Growth and up |
| **Hide local pickup for tagged products** | Product tags includes any of *oversized* | Hide delivery type **Local pickup** | Pro (uses the delivery-type filter) |
| **Put express shipping first** | None (every checkout) | Move methods whose name contains *Express* to position 1 | Pro |

Amounts are in your store’s currency. Templates that use something your plan doesn’t include are marked with a plan name, and the table above lists the plan each one needs. You can still open them, but you’ll need to upgrade, or change the parts your plan doesn’t include, before you can save.

## Make a template your own

- **Method names must match yours.** *Express*, *Free*, *Economy* and *Freight* are examples. With **contains**, *Express* also matches *Express Overnight*; switch to **is exactly** to match one name only. See [Actions](https://help.fleekapps.com/shiprule/actions/).
- **Adjust the thresholds.** Change 50 or 100 to the amounts that suit your shipping costs.
- **Add conditions.** For example, add *Shipping country is any of US* to the express template so it only applies to domestic orders.
- **Rename it.** The template’s title becomes the rule name. Only you see it.

## Templates and free shipping

**Show only free shipping above a threshold** hides your paid options when the order qualifies. It doesn’t create a free rate: your store needs a free shipping rate in **Settings → Shipping and delivery** for buyers to see. ShipRule can’t create rates or change prices.

## Test after saving

Check every new rule in your store’s checkout with one cart that should match and one that shouldn’t. See [Create your first rule](https://help.fleekapps.com/shiprule/create-your-first-rule/#step-4-test-it-at-checkout).
