ShipRule · Plans, billing & data · Updated October 10, 2026

> What ShipRule stores, why it stores no customer data, what the checkout function reads inside Shopify, and what happens to your rules when you uninstall.

ShipRule needs your rules and a little information about your store. It doesn’t store any personal information about your customers. This article summarizes how data is handled.

## Permissions ShipRule asks for

| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Write delivery customizations | To create and update ShipRule’s delivery customization, which applies your rules at checkout |
| Read shipping | To list your shipping method names in the rule editor |
| Read products | To choose products and collections for conditions |

## What ShipRule stores

- **Store details** from Shopify: domain, name, contact email, Shopify plan, currency, time zone and primary domain.
- **Staff who open the app:** Shopify user ID, name, email and language.
- **Access tokens** Shopify issues so the app can act for you, stored encrypted.
- **Your rules and settings**, and an **activity log** of changes to them.
- **Your subscription status**, as reported by Shopify. Shopify handles payment; ShipRule never sees card details.

## No customer data

ShipRule doesn’t store customer names, emails, phone numbers or addresses.

At checkout, your rules run inside Shopify as a Shopify Function. To decide which delivery methods to show, the function reads:

- the cart subtotal and total, and the quantity of each item;
- for each product, its ID and whether it has the product tags or belongs to the collections used in your rules;
- whether the buyer is logged in, and whether they have the customer tags used in your rules;
- the shipping country, state or province and postal code;
- the delivery options’ names, types and prices.

No email, phone number, name or street address is requested. Customer tags are matched inside Shopify, and only a yes or no comes back. This checkout data is processed by Shopify and isn’t sent to ShipRule’s servers.

Because ShipRule stores no customer data, Shopify’s customer data requests and customer deletion requests have nothing to return or remove. They’re still received and logged.

## What ShipRule changes in your store

ShipRule adds one delivery customization named *ShipRule* (under **Settings → Shipping and delivery → Delivery customizations**) and saves your compiled rules on it. It doesn’t edit your theme, products, prices or shipping rates.

## Retention

- The activity log keeps entries for one year.
- Deleted rules are removed permanently after 30 days.

## When you uninstall

1. **ShipRule stops changing checkout** — Shopify removes the delivery customization.
2. **Access is revoked** — tokens are revoked and your subscription is canceled.
3. **Your data is deleted** when Shopify sends its data-removal request, 48 hours after you uninstall. That removes your store’s details, rules, settings and activity.

If you reinstall before your data is deleted, your rules are still there.
