# Manage rules

ShipRule · Manage rules · Updated October 10, 2026

> Find, turn on and off, duplicate, delete and bulk-edit rules, handle rules paused by your plan, use the safety switch and pause ShipRule at checkout.

**Shipping rules** lists every rule you’ve created. Rules run from top to bottom at checkout, and you can turn them on or off without losing their settings.

## The rules list

Each row shows the rule’s name, a summary of its **Conditions** and **Actions**, its **Status** and when it was last updated.

- **Tabs:** **All**, **Active** (on and running), **Turned off** and **Paused** (paused by your plan), each with a count.
- **Search rules** finds rules by name, conditions or actions.
- **Checkout capacity**, at the bottom, shows how much of Shopify’s checkout limit your rules that are on use.

The **Dashboard** shows the same counts as **Active rules**, **Turned off** and **Paused by plan**; click one to open the list filtered.

## Turn a rule on or off

Use the switch in the **Status** column, or the rule’s **⋯** menu → **Turn on** / **Turn off**. Turned-off rules keep all their settings and stop applying at checkout within a few seconds. You can also switch a rule **On** or **Off** in the editor and click **Save**.

## Edit, duplicate and delete

From a rule’s **⋯** menu, or the buttons at the top of the editor:

- **Edit** — open the rule editor. Click **Save** to apply changes, or **Cancel** to discard them.
- **Duplicate** — creates *Copy of …* right below the original. Copies start **turned off**, so checkout doesn’t change until you turn them on.
- **Delete** — after you confirm, the rule stops applying at checkout and can’t be restored. To keep a rule for later, turn it off instead.

## Bulk actions (Growth and up)

1. Tick the rules you want, or tick the box in the header to select every rule in the current view.
2. Click **Turn on**, **Turn off** or **Delete**.

Bulk delete asks you to confirm first. On Basic, the selection bar says *Bulk actions are part of the Growth plan.*

## Rules paused by your plan

If you move to a plan that doesn’t include a feature a rule uses, the rule is **paused**, not deleted. Its status shows the reason, such as *Needs the Growth plan*, and it doesn’t run at checkout. The Dashboard also shows how many rules are paused.

To bring a paused rule back, either:

- **Upgrade** — paused rules resume automatically when your plan covers them again.
- **Edit the rule** — remove the parts your plan doesn’t include and click **Save**.

## The safety switch

**Settings → Safety → Never hide every shipping option** is on by default. If your rules would remove every delivery method from a checkout, ShipRule doesn’t hide any of them, so buyers can still check out. Turn it off only if you intentionally want to prevent orders, for example to addresses you can’t ship to. See [Rule priority and conflicts](https://help.fleekapps.com/shiprule/priority-and-conflicts/#the-safety-switch).

## Pause ShipRule

To stop ShipRule changing checkout without deleting or turning off any rules:

1. Open **Settings**.
2. Under **Pause ShipRule**, click **Pause ShipRule at checkout**.

Checkout shows your normal shipping options. Your rules keep their on/off settings. To start again, click **Turn ShipRule on** in the same place, or on the **Checkout connection** card. See [Checkout connection](https://help.fleekapps.com/shiprule/checkout-connection/).

> **Tip:** Pausing is the quickest way to rule ShipRule out when you’re investigating a checkout problem.

## Activity

**Activity** lists changes to your rules, settings and plan — who made them and when. The Dashboard shows the latest entries under **Recent activity**.
