# Count shelf by shelf with a location audit

> Use Location Audit to count one shelf or bin at a time. Products stored on several shelves are added together when you submit.

A **Location Audit** works like a full audit, but every count is tied to a shelf or bin label such as *A-01*. Staff set a shelf, count everything on it, then move to the next one. It’s the easiest way to audit a large stockroom in sections.

Location Audit is included on the **Growth** plan and up. On Starter, the mode shows *Not included in this store’s plan*. See [Plans, free trial and billing](https://help.fleekapps.com/rack-scanner/plans-and-billing/).

## Run a location audit

1. On the mobile app’s **Home** tab, choose the **Count location** — the Shopify location you’re counting.
2. Tap **Location Audit**.
3. Tap the **Set shelf** chip at the top left of the camera view. In **Shelf / bin label**, type the label (for example *A-01*) and tap **Set shelf**. The chip now shows *Shelf A-01*.
4. Scan every item on that shelf. Each scan adds 1 to that product on that shelf.
5. Move to the next shelf: tap the chip, enter the new label and keep scanning.
6. When you’re done, tap **Review & submit**, check the lines and tap **Submit all**.

The product card shows the shelf you’re counting, and the **Review count** screen lists lines sorted by shelf, each with its shelf label.

## Products on several shelves

Each product gets a separate line for every shelf it’s counted on. For example:

When you submit, Rack Scanner adds the lines together and sets Shopify’s available quantity at that location to the total — 12 in this example. Shopify stores one quantity per product and location, not per shelf.

> **Note:** Because shelves are added together, count every shelf that holds a product before you submit. A product counted on only one of its shelves is set to that shelf’s count.

## Require a shelf label

By default, staff can scan before setting a shelf. To make a shelf label mandatory, open **Settings** in the Shopify app, turn on **Require a shelf label in Location Audit** and click **Save changes**. Staff who scan without a shelf then see *Scan or enter a shelf label first* and are asked for one.

## Review shelf counts in the Shopify app

Open **Count sessions** and choose a session with the mode *Location audit*. Its product table has a **Shelf** column next to *Shopify before*, *Counted* and *Difference*. ## Tips

- Label shelves and bins in a consistent format, such as aisle letter plus number, so sessions are easy to read later.
- Large audits are saved on the phone as a draft until you submit. If you leave the scan screen, **Home** shows a card to resume the count.
