# Install Rack Scanner and connect a phone

> Install the Shopify app, choose a plan, get your team on the mobile app and connect each phone to your store with a single-use QR code.

This guide takes you from install to a phone that’s ready to scan. Setup has four parts: install the Shopify app, choose a plan, get the mobile app, and connect the phone.

## Step 1: Install the Shopify app

Install Rack Scanner from the Shopify App Store. You can also go to rackscanner.com, enter your store’s .myshopify.com address and click **Install Rack Scanner**. You’ll find the address in your Shopify admin under **Settings → Domains**.

Shopify shows what Rack Scanner can access. Approve it to finish installing.

## Step 2: Choose a plan

Rack Scanner opens on **Plans & billing** until your store has a plan.

1. Click the button on the plan you want, such as **Start 7-day free trial**.
2. Shopify shows the subscription for approval. Approve it.
3. You’re taken to the **Dashboard**, ready to connect your first phone.

While Rack Scanner imports your products, stock and orders, the Dashboard shows *Importing your products, stock and orders*. Scanning already works during the import. Lookups get faster once it finishes.

> **Tip:** Open **Settings** and choose a **Default count location**, then click **Save changes**. It’s pre-selected when your staff start a count.

## Step 3: Get the mobile app

Each team member installs **Rack Scanner** from the App Store or Google Play, then taps **Create an account** and enters:

- **Full name**
- **Email**
- **Password** — at least 8 characters, with a letter and a number

Accounts belong to people, not to your store. Your team can have as many accounts as you like; your plan only limits how many phones are connected at the same time.

## Step 4: Connect the phone

In your Shopify admin:

1. Open **Rack Scanner** and go to **Devices**.
2. Click **Connect device**. The *Connect a mobile device* window shows a QR code, plus a **Store ID** and **Token** for manual entry.

On the phone:

1. Log in to the Rack Scanner app. The **Connect Store** screen opens.
2. Tap **Scan QR code** and point the camera at the code on your screen.
3. The app opens **Home**, showing your store name and *Connected · expires in…*.

If the camera can’t read the code, tap **Enter code manually** and type the Store ID and token instead.

## How connections work

- **Each code is single use.** Once a phone connects, the code can’t be used again. Click **New code** in the window to connect the next phone.
- **Codes expire.** The window shows when the code expires. Generating a new code cancels any earlier code that hasn’t been used, and **Cancel code** cancels it right away.
- **Connections last 24 hours.** After that, the phone shows *Your store connection expired after 24 hours* and the person scans a fresh code. Lost or shared phones don’t keep access.

> **Note:** If the app says *Device limit reached*, your plan’s number of connected phones is in use. Disconnect a phone in **Devices** or upgrade your plan. See [Devices and staff access](https://help.fleekapps.com/rack-scanner/devices-and-staff/).

## Before your first count

- **Add barcodes or SKUs** to your products in Shopify. Rack Scanner matches barcodes first, then SKUs. **Settings** shows what share of your variants have a barcode. See [Barcodes and scanning tips](https://help.fleekapps.com/rack-scanner/barcodes-and-scanning/).
- **Check your locations.** Your plan includes a number of locations, and your default location is always one of them.
