# Devices and staff access

Rack Scanner · Devices & scanning · Updated October 10, 2026

> See which phones are connected, disconnect or sign out a device, revoke a person’s access, and understand how device limits and 24-hour connections work.

You decide which phones can reach your inventory. Phones connect with a single-use QR code, every connection ends after 24 hours, and you can cut off a device or a person at any time.

## Device limits

Your plan sets how many phones can be **connected at the same time**: 2 on Starter, 5 on Growth, 15 on Pro and unlimited on Enterprise. Staff accounts are unlimited; only connected phones count.

When the limit is reached, **Connect device** is turned off and **Devices** shows *Device limit reached*. Disconnect a phone or upgrade. If someone reconnects the same phone, the new connection replaces the old one, so it isn’t counted twice.

## The Devices page

Open **Devices** in the Shopify app (the page is titled *Mobile devices*). At the top you’ll see:

- **Connected now** — connected phones out of your plan’s limit.
- **Pending QR code** — the last four characters of a code that hasn’t been used yet, and when it expires.
- **Access revoked** — how many people are blocked, with a link to review them.

Below, the tabs **Connected**, **Disconnected**, **Access revoked** and **All** list each device with the staff member, phone model, operating system and app version, status, time left on the connection and last activity.

To connect a phone, click **Connect device**. See [Install Rack Scanner and connect a phone](https://help.fleekapps.com/rack-scanner/install-and-connect/).

## Device actions

Open a device’s menu:

| Action | What happens |
|---|---|
| **View details & history** | Device details, scans on this connection, count sessions from the device and a history of every event |
| **Disconnect** | Ends this phone’s connection. The person can reconnect by scanning a new QR code |
| **Force logout** | Ends the connection and also signs the person out of the app on that phone |
| **Revoke access** | Disconnects all of that person’s devices and blocks them from reconnecting until you restore access |
| **Restore access** | Lets a blocked person connect again, and shows a fresh QR code for their phone |

The device history shows events such as *Connected with a QR code*, *Connection expired after 24 hours*, *Disconnected*, *Signed out of the app*, *Access revoked* and *Replaced by a newer connection*, with who did it and when.

## The Staff page

**Staff** lists everyone who has connected the app to your store, with their access (*Allowed* or *Revoked*), active and total devices, scans, the date they joined and when they were last active. Search by name or email.

Click **Revoke** to block someone; their devices disconnect right away. Click **Restore** to let them connect again with a new QR code.

> **Tip:** When someone leaves your team, revoke their access instead of only disconnecting the phone. A disconnected person can reconnect with any new code; a revoked person can’t.

## What staff see

When a connection ends, the app returns to **Connect Store** with the reason, for example *Your store connection expired after 24 hours. Scan a new QR code to reconnect.* A blocked person who tries to connect sees *Your access to this store has been revoked by the merchant.*

In the mobile app’s **Settings**, staff can see when their connection expires, tap **Disconnect store** to end it themselves, or **Log out** of the app.

## When your plan changes

- **Downgrading** to a plan with fewer devices disconnects the extra phones. Rack Scanner keeps the most recently active ones connected, and the Plans page warns you before you switch.
- **Without an active plan**, all phones are disconnected and new phones can’t connect.
